About us
KI is a team with 20 years of experience in international film and television production, composed of film and television talents from different countries.
KI is based in Christchurch, South Island, New Zealand and provides various overseas shooting and co-production services for production houses, agencies and clients from across the world. We will work together with you from assisting you in applying for the right visa, research in the early stages of the project, to the release of the film. At present, the regions we provide services include New Zealand, Australia, India, United States of America, Canada, the Middle East, Russia, Spain and South Africa.
In recent years, we have cooperated with Hualuxe, Chima, Amber, Shiqiudao, Putao Creative, Red Production, Tree Venkateshwara Creations, Moving Production, Shanghai Yunji, Discovery (China), Sanduotang and other companies, as well as many Chinese & Indian producers and film and television creators We have completed projects in New Zealand, Dubai, Orlando (USA), Moscow, New Delhi (India), Perth (Australia), Barcelona (Spain), Adelaide (Australia), etc., and have received a lot of praise.

KI not only has strong production capabilities, but also has reasonable arrangements and all professional and efficient film and television resources, making the budget of many overseas shooting projects basically the same as that in China. KI has provided many production houses with more cost-effective overseas shooting solutions. In addition, KI will try to introduce the characteristics of different regions to the Chinese team in detail during the early communication, avoiding the situation that many Chinese teams are not acclimatized when shooting overseas.
KI comes from Middle-earth New Zealand, which is located in the southern hemisphere. The four seasons are opposite to those in China. When China is in the middle of winter, New Zealand is in midsummer. When the northern hemisphere enters summer, New Zealand welcomes a world of ice and snow. At the same time, because it is located in the volcanic belt, the rich landforms and geographical locations are surprisingly concentrated, which greatly saves the transition time of location shooting. Aveling Li
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER | MANAGING DIRECTOR
A native of Beijing, she graduated from the School of Creative Media from the City University of Hong Kong and worked in film and television in Hong Kong, Beijing and New Zealand. She has worked as a producer, screenwriter, director, editor, host, etc., and has professional knowledge and experience in all processes of film and television production. Having experience in China and knowledge of New Zealand she is the driving force behind Ki Studio.
Darshan Shetty
EXECUTIVE PRODUCER
As the grandson of one of India’s top stunt directors & audio engineers he comes from a lineage of over 400 feature films. He started his career in films by being one of the youngest line producers in India at the age of 16 and has since worked as a producer & executive producer on several projects. He set-up Ki Studio in 2015 along with Aveling as New Zealand’s only production house dedicated to Chinese Mainland films.
Rupert De Paula
CREATIVE CONSULTANT
Rupert de Paula is an award-winning creative director, brand strategist and director, with over 15 years of experience working at world-class agencies both in Europe and APAC. Originally from the UK, his work has been recognised at major international awards shows, like Cannes, the Clios and Spikes Asia, and closer to home at Best and AGDA.With expertise in both advertising and branding design, creative and strategy, copywriting and art direction, his skillset defies expectations and eschews category norms.
Most recently, he was the creative partner of a very well-respected New Zealand design agency, Strategy. He is also the creative director of an innovative ‘shoppable magazine’ in the UK and is developing a TV series.
His specialty is distilling complicated business and communications challenges into simple, elegant and impactful solutions—that deliver results.
GAME CHANGER
In December 2022 Ki Studio line produced the largest film project post covid in New Zealand. This production was directed by Tollywood's #1 Director Mr. Shankar Shanmugam, #1 Cinematographer Mr. Thiru, #1 Choreographer Mr. Bosco from Bollywood fame, Top actress Kiara Adani and Mega Super star Ram Charan whose latest film score in RRR won the Oscar & Bafta for best original song. The production took a month, with more than 150 actors and crew and spanned multiple locations in New Zealand's South Island.
